St Paul went on three main missionary journeys (Acts 13-14, Acts 15:36-18:22 and Acts 18:23-20:38) where he preached about his new faith in Christ, travelling from Antioch to places in Europe and Asia Minor. Through his travels, St Paul was able to spread the news of Jesus Christ, reaching out far away from where Christianity began, helping to invite more Jews and Gentiles into the kingdom of God. His appearances in these places meant that he could clearly explain the good news, practices and beliefs through oral teaching. The gift of tongues enabled him to speak to crowds who spoke different languages, something that would help to carry on Christianity to different countries, which were unfamiliar to Judaism and Jewish authority. St Paul had a great impact on the abundance of Christians and also the strength of faith they had as he could easily express a love and devotion that would appeal and influence many Jews and gentiles. Christianity was becoming part of many other cultures, as St Paul furthered the religion into becoming a universal faith, rather than a sect of Judaism.
How his letters impacted early Christianity
St Paul was an Apostle who scribed 13 letters, otherwise known as the Epistles, which are included in the New Testament section in the Bible. These letters were written to the Romans, Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, Thessalonians, Timothy, Titus, Philemon, Hebrews and also a Hymn of Love. His letters were an innovative way to educate and guide the new Christians with their practice and faith, without him having to spend a lot of time in one place. His letters taught the lessons and challenges of Jesus Christ: Love for God and neighbour and also remembering the importance of love for God over the law (not succumbing to persecution). These letters impacted Christians through enforcing a fast growing knowledge of faith as well as something they could keep and refer to for later generations. Their use is clear in how his letters are still read today. (322)
